After being postponed in July due to the coronavirus pandemic, Amazon Prime Day 2020 kicked off at midnight PT on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, and will run through Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Since the annual Black Friday–like sale—held exclusively for Amazon Prime members—started in 2015, it has grown from a one-day event with discounts on 100,000 items to a two-day event with over 1 million deals.
Before you can shop the sale, you’ll need to sign up for an Amazon Prime free 30-day trial account if you’re not already a member. (After the 30-day trial, Amazon Prime costs $119 per year or $12.99 per month.) In addition to qualifying for Prime Day deals, your membership also gets you free two-day shipping year-round, plus ongoing access to Prime Video, unlimited photo storage, and free grocery delivery service from Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Markets in select locations.
To help drive more money to small businesses, Amazon has created curated collections of small businesses to make it easier to shop them online. The collections, which you can browse now at amazon.com/supportsmall, are organized by product type, region (so you can shop locally), and by owner profile if you want to support women or Black-owned businesses, for example.
To get a sneak peek of what will be marked down over the next two days, go to “Today’s Deals” on Amazon, click the “Upcoming” tab, and hit “Watch this Deal” to get a notification via the Amazon app when the sale starts. (You can also install the Amazon assistant in your browser to get desktop notifications.) Some deals have limited stock, so you’ll need to act quickly to make sure you get what you want.
To save you from spending the next two days scrolling through thousands of things you don’t need, here are some of our favorite travel products that are actually worth buying this Amazon Prime Day, from noise-canceling headphones to luggage and travel-size toiletries.
