Auburn opens as slight road favorite against South Carolina

Auburn opened as a slight road favorite for next weekend’s game at South Carolina.

The Tigers, coming off a narrow escape against an upset-minded Arkansas, opened as three-point favorites against the Gamecocks, according to VegasInsider.com. The line quickly shifted to Auburn -2.5.

Auburn (2-1) will travel to Columbia, S.C., to take on South Carolina (1-2) on Saturday for an 11 a.m. CT kick. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.

Auburn is coming off its close win against Arkansas, while South Carolina is coming off its first win of the season, a 41-7 walloping of Vanderbilt.

This weekend’s meeting will mark the first between the programs since 2014, as well as the first for Auburn against former defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, who spent the 2015 season on the Plains before leaving for the head coaching position at South Carolina.

Auburn leads the all-time series with South Carolina, 10-1-1, and has

Football Preview: South Carolina at Vanderbilt

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) – Something has to give this weekend as the 0-2 Gamecocks travel to Nashville to battle the winless Vanderbilt Commodores.

South Carolina

Despite putting together some solid drives against two ranked opponents, the Gamecocks still find themselves entering week three without a win. A late mishap against Tennessee, and a second-half collapse against Florida left them with a bad taste in their mouth. But a week three matchup with Vanderbilt brings a lot of optimism with it.

Collin Hill has played well through two games this season, and has engineered scoring drives on each of the team’s opening possessions this season. They’ve come out strong, but have failed to build on the momentum. After scoring on the first drive against Tennessee, the Gamecocks followed that up with five punts and an interception return for a touchdown to close out the half. After their opening drive against Florida,

South Carolina football: Starter Keir Thomas possibly out

South Carolina’s Keir Thomas and the defensive line at the Aug. 19 football practice.

South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp announced this week that he won’t be discussing injuries anymore this season with the worry it might allow someone to deduce if certain players had COVID-19.

He also did away with the pregame release of a dress or travel roster. On Saturday, one USC starter was not with the team in warmups for the game against Vanderbilt.

Defensive tackle Keir Thomas was missing during those team warmups at Vanderbilt Stadium. A school spokesman said he didn’t make the trip.

Reserve defensive back Jaylin Dickerson also did not make the trip.

Linebacker Jahmar Brown, who has yet to play this season with a knee injury, was also not out with the linebackers warming up.

Thomas started in 2017 and 2018 before an infection from an ankle

Three Key Matchups: South Carolina

When the South Carolina Gamecocks visit Vanderbilt Stadium Saturday morning, there will be a lot riding on this game for both teams. Currently 0-2, both squads are desperate for a win that would be their first of the season. Neither can afford to fall to 0-3 as they fight to find a place in the middle of the SEC East standings.

Simultaneously, both head coaches, Carolina’s Will Muschamp and Vanderbilt’s Derek Mason, are residing squarely on the hot seat to retain their jobs.

However, in this COVID-19 era, it is uncertain either would be fired regardless of how poorly their season goes. Either way, this is an important game for both coaches and their teams.

What are the three key matchups we suspect will play prominent roles in the outcome Saturday?

1) Ted Roof vs. Mike Bobo: Yes, I know these two will never line up opposite

Dog found shot in the chest in South Carolina

Hope survived a point-blank range shot to the chest earlier this year. Now, she’s thriving in her new home in New York.

LANCASTER, S.C. — A dog who was found shot in the chest in Lancaster County now has a forever home in New York.

The Lancaster SPCA said Hope was found injured around May of this year.

Mikala Steele, of Lancaster SPCA, said it looked like somebody “walked up to her and pulled the trigger.”

“But it was birdshot,” Steele said. “She was just in shock and had lost blood. We weren’t sure she’s gonna make it.”

A volunteer transported her to Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Rock Hill SC for immediate medical attention.

Steele said Hope suffered several injuries as a result of the shooting including a brachial plexus injury, bruising on her chest and cardiovascular shock.

Hope then continued her care at Faulkner Animal Hospital while being fostered

Baker’s Bar settles into South Windermere with more space, bigger menu

Baker’s Bar is now open in West Ashley, taking over the South Windermere space previously occupied by Starbucks. The restaurant, a third concept from Normandy Farm Bakery and One Broad Street co-owners Mike Ray and Ben Johnson, serves pizzas, daily pasta specials and more.

Baker’s Bar opened on Sept. 8, six months later than Ray and Johnson had anticipated when they purchased the property in November 2019. After waiting out the quarantine, Ray has been pleased with the response in South Windermere.

“Since we’re over here basically on the Greenway, it’s definitely a little more family oriented,” he said. “We’ve expanded the menu with appetizers, and we make our own pastas and raviolis and stuff like that.”

Baker’s Bar downtown, which was located in the basement under One Broad Street, shuttered at the end of September when Ray and Johnson permanently closed the all-day cafe upstairs. The
