Investment in travel magazine is ‘vote of confidence’ in sector

An investment that will enable the relaunch of an independent magazine hit by Covid-19 has been labelled a “vote of confidence” in the travel media sector.

Ardent Media Ltd, which owned the quarterly Family Traveller magazine, was put into voluntary liquidation in September after the travel industry was paralysed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

But chief executive and founder Andrew Dent is part of a new team of investors that has bought the Family Traveller brand’s assets and is set to relaunch the magazine with a December/January issue focusing on Easter and summer holidays for 2021.

Dent said: “It is a massive recognition to the work we have done over the years that despite incredibly tough trading conditions we have attracted investment to continue our work building the world’s largest community of family travellers.

Kyoto ranked as best big city in the world by U.S. travel magazine : The Asahi Shimbun

Although hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic as have other tourist destinations, Kyoto still ranks as a world favorite for travelers.

The U.S. travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler has ranked Japan’s ancient capital as the world’s best large city in its 2020 readers’ choice poll, which excludes the United States.

It is the first time its readers selected Kyoto as their top choice, although it ranked second the previous year.

The top honor comes with some irony in a year when foreign tourism practically vanished, but it also offers some hope for the city’s tourist industry.

Kyoto has struggled during the pandemic as foreign tourism to Japan nosedived this year because of the virus. The number of foreigners who stayed at major hotels in Kyoto in July dropped by 99.8 percent compared to July last year.

On the Conde Nast Traveler list, Tokyo had topped the rankings four years in

A new travel magazine has launched that amplifies Black voices across the African diaspora

As a keen traveller, I love to flip through pages of travel magazines in search of inspiration. Over the years I’ve collected what must be hundreds of them, from the glossy, established titles to indie, niche publications.

As a Black female traveller, rarely did I see writers and adventurers that looked like me in those titles. Sometimes there were Black people in the pages I looked to for inspiration: the ranger in the background of a safari piece. Or the poor kids and locals in mud huts that a white travel writer visited as part of the end-of-the-year feature on voluntourism.

Where were the stories of the Black boy who hitchhiked solo across the Middle East? The Ghanaian-British wildlife TV presenter who travelled around the world filming in unique and remote destinations, the UK-born Jamaican girl reconnecting with her island roots by travelling solo around her ancestral land?

White House (Barack Obama’s) Approval of Vikki Jones’ VMH Magazine Ignites New Travel/Business Bag

10/02/2020, Atlanta // KISSPR //

Barack Obama’s GES ( Global Entrepreneurship Summit ) included a wide range of workshops, panels, ignite talks, pitch competitions, mentoring, and networking sessions designed to give the more than 700 entrepreneurs joining from around the world an opportunity to build the skills and relationships that will help their business ventures grow.

“It was a very big moment for my company. I had to carry to-and-fro all my various mobile office equipment, my laptop, and personal luggage. I did some last minute research and saw that the press had the opportunity to go out and meet the president when he landed for the event, and there would be a press conference held at a nearby military base. I figured this would be a great opportunity for my independent media department, so I started applying for a spot as they were calling for everyone to board the
